Thanks to all who have inquired about the March-April Poetry for the People class. We're at two students above capacity and going strong! Want to save your place in the next P4P class, which starts on October 7? You can register now!
I'm so proud of these poets, I could burst! They're mastering sound, image, rhythm and the mysterious density of discovery that comprises a poem with such grace and aplomb. I so appreciate the sincerity, hard work and language lift-off that these poets are generously sharing with me. But most of all, I respect the commitment they have made to themselves--to spend six weeks engaged in a process of mining their gems of experience and insight, then polishing them into poems.
Plus, I just heard from Drew Myron, a previous Poetry for the People student, who shared some exciting news:
The MacGuffin will print the poem in their Summer 2009 issue. And Poetry for the Masses (whose call for poems you posted on your blog) will print a broadside of the poem in May 2009.
Lucy was written last March, as a point-of-view assignment in your class. After much plucking & pruning, it will see publication. And this will be my first print journal, and first broadside, credit. I am floating.
Thank you, Sage, for your class and your instruction!
Drew was a wonderful student. She worked hard in our class, wrote some moving and memorable poems, and clearly continued to work hard after our class--continuously refining her poem until it landed a double-whammy of publishing success. Bravo, Drew, for your love of poetry, your commitment to your craft, and for having the courage to send your work out into the world. It is always a cause for celebration when our poems find their way to a larger audience. And it is a double-blessing to have a supportive community to celebrate with.

Sage,
Thanks so much for the mention.
And you are right -- it means so much more to share the joy with my writing community!
all the best,
drew
